An interview with Claudio Miranda – Cinematographer

Academy Award-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda reflects on an inspirational career that has provided the Chilean with opportunities to work on blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick, Tron: Legacy, and Life of Pi.

Speaking to Mo-Sys earlier this month, Miranda explained his commitment to ‘doing his homework’ for any project, even gaining his pilot license ahead of filming Top Gun: Maverick.

It should come as no surprise, then, that this attention to detail extends to his choice of equipment for the high-caliber productions he is known for. One career-spanning relationship is with Mo-Sys. Miranda has used Mo-Sys’ remote heads for decades and is currently eyeing his next investment in the new G30 gyro-stabilized remote head.

Claudio’s use of Mo-Sys remote heads began in 2007 on the set of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, a film later nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography and the American Society of Cinematographers Award.

He has used his workhorse Mo-Sys head ever since, including on his most recent project. Once again working with director Joseph Kosinski on Apex, produced by Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton, Apex tells the story of a Formula 1 driver making a dramatic comeback.

Watch the full interview for more insight from one of the industry’s most respected cinematographers and hear more about why his Mo-Sys head features on every project—from the feel of the handwheel controls to its reliability and simple, uncomplicated ‘tech-less’ operation.
